Question about High Watt PSU's on sale

dimanche 21 décembre 2014

Basically due to sale on New Egg I am looking at a higher watt PSU than I would usually look at. I justify it by saying it will be the last one I have to buy for a long time - lol.

Anyway, I expect that I really need something in the 800w range. But, Newegg has the EVGA 1000w G2 Supernova and the Seasonic 1200w xp3 both on sale and mail in rebates.

They are $110 and $140 respectively. I don't think I will ever have 3 or 4 graphics cards. Maybe end up with two high end down the road when I pull the trigger on 4k monitor. I like the idea of the bling of the Seasonic, but is it bad if I'm only using 50% of the power and therefore makes it wasteful / less efficient.

I'd love to buy one nice one and never need another one again. Well, at least not for a long time. Seems like everything is going more efficient. Are 1000 watt power supplies going to end up a dead breed in a few years?

Thanks

Mostly gaming ,with some video conversion. Gave my son my AX 760 for his crossfire setup I put together for him this Christmas. I plan to buy the new AMD card when it comes out next year or try to snag a gtx 980. Then I would be a while waiting for 4k to become more reasonable and more used then pick up a 2nd card and monitor.

I will have a few mechanical drives, 6 fans etc and a few other peripherals. Will OC the processor.
