Japanese Postmodernism and Anime

I have some questions about this phenomenon. I had seen Evangelion, Lain and some Ghost in the Shell however I had no idea that this was actually a thing until started reading on this stuff. I wonder with self aware shows that are aimed at otaku and are critical of otaku culture, is there more information on this topic?
