Light Novel Adaptations Nowadays: Have They Stopped Trying?

lundi 16 mars 2015

In the past, I have been a big fan of anime series based on LNs like Shakugan no Shana and Toaru Majutsu no Index, but my interest dwindled when I found less and less interesting anime series. Nowadays though, I have been trying to rekindle my interest with light novel adaptations by blindly picking up a handful of them each season.

However, aside from Madhouse's No Game No Life, how many LN adaptations nowadays have become worthwhile watches?

This season, I picked up Absolute Duo, Seiken Tsukai no World Break and Shinmai Maou no Testament as part of my Light Novel Challenge, and as we reach the end of Winter 2015, I start to realize that producing an anime based on LNs have reached a new low in quality. All three series suffered from at least noticeable QUALITY issues, and both Duo and World Break seem produced at a shoestring budget.

What gives? Is this a sign that those who produce anime based on LN have stopped giving their effort in making an anime series comparable to Shana, Index, Toradora and many others from a few years back? Or have LN adaptations regressed to becoming mere advertisements for the original to the point that getting low BD sales don't even matter?
