James Horner: One of my favorite probably next influential movie soundtrack composer next to John Williams passed away due to a small plane crash. He also joins the unfortunate list of many notable musicians such as Buddy Holly, John Denver, etc who have died in small plane accidents.
Little anime anecdote: Gundam 0083 used part of James Horner's Glory Soundtrack as "The Naval Review" theme note for note. I have one of the early copies of the 0083 soundtracks and I believe that his name in the liner notes as credited.
