Recommendation for PSU?

lundi 12 janvier 2015

Hey all..

I'm not even going to pretend I know much about power supplies... so I thought I'd come to those who did, and get some recommendations...

I've got a 7 year old (yikes!) Antec Neopower 650 power supply. It's powered three generations of PC's for me since I first purchased it in 2008.

Here is my current set-up. I am going to replace the video card next month with some flavor of either a Radeon R9 290x, or a GeForce GTX 970 .. I have not decided which yet (if anyone wants to chime in on that as well, I'm all for it).

Intel i5 3450 3.1ghz

Corsair H50 Cooler

Asus P8Z770v LX mobo

Diamond MM Radeon 7850

16 gigs DDR3 1600MHz Patriot Viper

Soundblaster Audigy (I just can't bear to use onboard sound)

1 Samsung 840 Pro SSD

2 7200 RPM 1TB WD HDDs

1 7200 RPM 2TB WD HDDs

1 Blu-Ray Drive

1 CD-RW

All in an Antec 900 case.

Nothing is overclocked.

Lately, intermittently, the computer will freeze, or bluescreen. I'm liking it to the power supply (after all, it has a LOT of hours on it) and figure if I'm going to upgrade my video card, I might as well upgrade the PSU unit, too.

I'm frugal. Ideally I'd like to spend $100ish or less... and don't want to wind up buying TOO much power supply for my needs and overspending.

I do a lot of video editing and video encoding editing commercials for a local movie theatre chain, and spend a great deal of time of steam... so I know better than to get a cheapie no-name brand... but would feel more comfortable with those in-the-know making some recommendations.

Any input is greatly appreciated.
