Machine Translation

Hi, I recently have the urge to want to translate certain LN or Web Novel, but I don't understand Japanese. I found that many people used Machine Translation and so I tried using Google Translate hoping that i can a least understand something but ended in wasting my time. I tried finding some other Translation sites hoping i can find something but i was unsure of what to do.

And so I was wondering how do you translate using this method and what software is required?
